Working Group IV/6: Global Databases Supporting Environmental Monitoring

Goals and Officers of the Working Group

Activities:

  1. Hosting a Virtual Workshop on Spatial Environmental Data Issues. The Virtual Workshop is scheduled to run for about two years. After that, a real workshop is anticipated (see below).
    • In the style of a traditional scientific conference, with "conveners" to lead "sessions" on appropriate topics....
      • Discussing datasets that can be created with existing remote sensing and GIS platforms and techniques.
      • Discussing needs of potential sponsors for such data.
      • Discussing methods and techniques for closing the gap(s) between needs and abilities.
      • Listing and describing existing leading global/continental data sets.
  • If you are interested in Convening a "session" in this virtual workshop, please contact us (see below).
  • Encouraging the discussion of GIS as a scientific tool.
  • Holding a symposium at the 18th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing on Asian Spatial Databases (This was done: 20-24 October 1997, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia). 18th ACRS information is now available, including registration information, accomodations, and the preliminary program.
  • Holding a session at the ISPRS Commission IV Symposium, 7-10 September 1998, Stuttgart, Germany.
  • Holding a Physical Workshop anticipated about September 1999 on Global Databases Supporting Environmental Monitoring (based on the Virtual Workshop noted just above).
  • Holding a Session, as well as a Working Group Meeting, at the XIX (19th) ISPRS Congress, 16-22 July 2000, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. email the Working Group Chairman, Ryutaro Tateishi: tateishi@rsirc.cr.chiba-u.ac.jp
